Dust Bunny 4K Review: Mads Mikkelsen Fantasy Horror Movie Delights

One of 2025’s most unique movies was Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny. It reunited the Hannibal creator with star Mads Mikkelsen for a fun blend of genres. Featuring fantastical elements, it’s a great introduction to horror for kids and a fun fantasy action movie for adults. The new Dust Bunny 4K release allows fans to own it in its highest quality.

“When 10-year-old Aurora needs help killing the monster she believes ate her family, she hires her hit man neighbor (Mads Mikkelsen). Suspecting the girl’s parents may have fallen victim to hit men gunning for him, Aurora’s neighbor guiltily takes the job. To protect Aurora, he’ll need to contend with an onslaught of assassins, a mysterious associate with killer heels (Sigourney Weaver), and accept that some monsters are real in this inventive feature directorial debut from creator Bryan Fuller,” says the official description.

The film’s plot revolves around an eight-year-old girl named Aurora who tries to hire Mads Mikkelsen’s character, a hitman known only as Resident 5B, to kill a giant dust bunny that she believes murdered her parents. It’s a perfect odd-couple pairing, as 5B doesn’t believe Aurora but gets roped into a misadventure anyway. The film has wonderful production design and features some great moments, even if I ultimately admire it more than I’m likely to go back to it often.

The Dust Bunny 4K disc looks and sounds great as it features Dolby Vision and Atmos support. The HDR really allows you to appreciate its flashier moments, such as the Chinatown section that introduces us to 5B. The soundscape also shines, allowing for crisp vocals and some great sound design.

The Dust Bunny 4K features a surprising number of bonus features, even if most of them are under a minute long. The meatiest is a 12-minute video on the making of the film, with some great behind-the-scenes footage. There are also five short featurettes, ranging from a look at monster design to a look at Mads’ choreography. To top it off, there’s also the film’s theatrical trailer. A commentary track would’ve been fun, as this is clearly a passion project for Fuller, but it’s a nice array of features, while many smaller films have none.

Dust Bunny 4K Review: Final Verdict

There’s a lot to like about Dust Bunny, which is a strong family horror movie with a fantasy bent. Featuring some strong action and plenty for Mads Mikkelsen fans to admire, the Dust Bunny 4K is an easy recommendation.
