Click 4K Review: Adam Sandler Movie Is Still Plenty of Fun

One of Adam Sandler’s most high-concept comedy movies is 2006’s Click. Now on its 20th anniversary, the popular film is receiving a 4K release. Is the Click 4K worth the upgrade, or should you not bother fast-forwarding to the current tech?

“A harried workaholic, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) doesn’t have time for his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and children, not if he’s to impress his ungrateful boss and earn a well-deserved promotion. So when he meets Morty (Christopher Walken), a loopy sales clerk, he gets the answer to his prayers: a magical remote that allows him to bypass life’s little distractions with increasingly hysterical results. But as Michael gleefully mutes, skips and scans past his family and his friends, the remote gradually takes over his life and begins to program him, in this fast, funny and out-of-control comedy adventure,” says the official description.

The core concept of Click is a great one — what if you had a television remote for real life? The always-charming Sandler anchors the comedy and he’s joined by a talented cast that also includes Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken, Henry Winkler, David Hasselhoff, Julie Kavner, and Sean Astin. We even get to see Jonah Hill and Cameron Monaghan in small roles. It’s not a perfect comedy, but it has a lot of heart and the film’s successful final act makes it a fun one to rewatch.

The Click 4K looks fantastic. Featuring Dolby Vision implementation and HDR10, it has never looked better. The sound has also gotten an upgrade with a Dolby Atmos track, so a lot of care has been taken for a comedy release — which usually aren’t treated as spectacles.

The Click 4K features a ton of bonus features from the original Blu-ray release, plus the theatrical trailer, which was omitted for some reason. That means there’s a fun audio commentary with Sandler, director Frank Coraci, writer Steve Koren, and EP Tim Herlihy, plus four deleted scenes. There are also seven featurettes that range from looks at the film’s impressive makeup and FX work to its production design. Overall, there’s a good mix of features that will only make you appreciate the film more after you’ve given them a spin.

Click 4K Review: Final Verdict

The Click 4K release is another great upgrade from Sony Pictures. The visual upgrade is noticeable, and the film’s great effects work makes it all the more of a treat. Throw in a strong Dolby Atmos track and all the existing bonus features (plus the trailer), and you’ve got a well-rounded release that is a success in all elements.
