Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie officially has a streaming release date. Neon recently announced that the comedy film and its companion series will be available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ this year.
When are the streaming release dates for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie?
The comedy film starring the Canadian comedic duo Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol is set to begin streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on July 24, 2026, in the U.S. Both seasons of the series will also be available to stream on the platform that same day. In Canada, the series will begin streaming on Disney+ on August 7.
The official logline reads, “When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008.”
The movie and series use a “guerrilla-style filmmaking” process. They use hidden cameras and have unscripted interactions with real people in Toronto. The film enjoyed a successful North American theatrical release. In addition, the movie received a 96% Tomatometer score from 116 reviews and a 95% score on Popcornmeter on RottenTomatoes.
Critics have called this movie “a comedic miracle sure to be a cult classic.” For instance, Tara Brady wrote for The Irish Times, “The result preserves the scrappy, improvised amiability of the original while expanding it into a diabolically clever comedy, poignantly pivoting around two chums as they confront the distance between youthful certainty and middle age.”
The movie was directed by Johnson, who also wrote the script with McCarrol. The show follows two comedians in a series of misadventures as they try to fulfill their lifelong dream of playing a show at The Rivoli, in Toronto’s West End. The two-season show was released from 2017 to 2018. The movie continues the duo’s dream of playing the show but with a time-travel, sci-fi theme.
In 2025, the standalone movie made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. It later had its hometown premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. In February 2026, the movie was released in theaters and performed well.
