Keanu Reeves‘ 1991 classic action film is being rereleased in theaters next month. The movie was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and redefined Reeves’ career from a young actor to a formidable action star.

Point Break, the acclaimed 1991 action thriller, will be rereleased in theatres nationwide, celebrating its 35th anniversary on August 16 and August 19. The rerelease is especially notable because the film will be showcased in a newly restored 4K print for the first time.
The two-day theatrical event will also feature an exclusive introduction from the surfing icon Matt Archbold, who served as Patrick Swayze‘s surf double during production. He also trained the cast members to surf before the filming began. In the introduction, he will share behind-the-scenes memories and his thoughts on the movie’s lasting connection to surfing and its themes of freedom and risk.
Point Break follows FBI agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) as he goes undercover to catch bank robbers who disguised themselves as Ex-Presidents. This gang carries out their heists wearing masks of former US presidents. Johnny builds a relationship with their gang, who are also surfers led by Bodhi (Patrick Swayze). Things take a different turn when Johnny falls for Bodhi’s ally, surfer Tyler (Lori Petty). To combat this threat, Johnny must neutralize the gang without getting caught.
The film also stars Gary Busey, John C. McGinley, James LeGros, and many others. Two-time Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow directed the film, and W. Peter Iliff did the screenplay.
Upon its release, the film received positive reactions from the fans. It holds a 68% Tomatometer score and a 79% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Produced on a $24 million budget, the film grossed more than $83 million worldwide in 1991. 20th Century Fox distributed it.
Fathom Entertainment has announced that ticket sales are available online and at participating theater box offices.
