Big Brother 28’s Rick Devens had to cancel his Man of Tomorrow cameo
DC Studios co-head James Gunn revealed on Threads that Survivor veteran Rick Devens had planned a cameo in Man of Tomorrow. Devens currently competes on Big Brother Season 28 on CBS. Gunn shared that Devens could not appear in the Superman sequel because of the reality competition.
The revelation came after Devens shouted out Gunn during Thursday’s live eviction episode. A follower then asked Gunn on Threads if Devens would appear in the sequel. Gunn responded with a clear answer about the scheduling conflict.
“No because he’s on Big Brother! Otherwise he would have been,” Gunn wrote on Threads. He also confirmed the two share a genuine friendship beyond the on-screen mention. Another user questioned whether Devens actually knew the filmmaker personally.
Gunn then offered more details about the planned background cameo in Man of Tomorrow. “We do. He was gonna appear in the background of MoT but he had to cancel,” Gunn explained. He added that Devens kept the Big Brother casting a secret from him at the time.
“He couldn’t tell me why but told me I’d be excited. Obviously I was!” Gunn continued. Devens’ wife and kids still visited the Man of Tomorrow set despite his absence. The filmmaker expressed genuine enthusiasm about his friend joining the CBS competition.
Big Brother Season 28 features Devens competing for a $750,000 cash prize alongside 14 other houseguests. Man of Tomorrow serves as the sequel to Superman, which opened to $125 million domestically. The first film also became the first DC movie to cross $300 million since 2022’s The Batman.
David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Man of Tomorrow set for release on July 9, 2027.
