Aladdin 2 Release Date Rumors: Is It Coming Out?

Ever since Disney put a sequel under development, the Aladdin 2 release date has been on the minds of many fans. The original is considered to be amongst Disney’s best live-action remakes, and a lot of credit for that goes to Will Smith’s performance as Genie.

Here’s all the Aladdin 2 release date information we know so far and all the details on when it is coming out.

Is there an Aladdin 2 release date?

Aladdin 2 does not have an official release date yet, but it may be announced in the near future.

Despite initial criticisms over CGI, the first Aladdin impressed a lot of fans. It went on to make $351 million domestically and surpass $1.051 billion worldwide. Its success enabled Disney to greenlight a sequel. But at the moment of writing, it doesn’t seem that the sequel will ever happen.

In March 2023, Aladdin actor Mena Massoud stated that the sequel is now “very unlikely” to happen. Will Smith impressed a lot of viewers with his portrayal of the Genie. While he may have been the cause of Disney putting another Aladdin movie under development, he is also the reason for its potential cancellation.

Since the actor lost his cool at the Oscars, he has only starred in Apple TV’s Emancipation, which had already been shot before the incident. Apart from that, studios have largely stayed away from casting him in any tentpole movies. That may have been the reason why Disney didn’t announce Aladdin 2 when other sequels and prequels, such as Frozen 2, Inside Out 2, Zootopia 2, and Mufasa: The Lion King, were revealed.

Will Smith is set to star in Sony’s Bad Boys 4 in 2024. If he is able to change people’s perception and make a comeback with that, then there might be a chance for Aladdin 2 to happen in the distant future. But for now, things look bleak for the sequel.

Is Aladdin 2 coming out soon?

No, Aladdin 2 isn’t confirmed to be released in the theaters anytime soon.

If the film does happen, then it will likely be based on 1994’s The Return of Jaffar and bring back Marwan Kenzari as Jaffar and Naomi Scott as Jasmine alongside Mena Massoud and Will Smith as the leading characters.
