Steven Spielberg’s alien thriller moves from the big screen to your living room. Disclosure Day is now available on digital streaming platforms after its worldwide theatrical run.
Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day just made its digital debut
Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day arrived on digital streaming and premium video on demand platforms on Tuesday, July 21. Universal Pictures released the film for purchase at $24.99 across Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV. Additionally, rentals are available for $19.99 for a 48-hour window, according to Forbes.
The film stars Emily Blunt as Kansas City TV meteorologist Margaret Fairchild and Josh O’Connor as cybersecurity specialist Dr. Daniel Kellner. Meanwhile, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo and Wyatt Russell also feature in key roles. David Koepp wrote the screenplay from an original story by Spielberg.
Disclosure Day opened theatrically on June 12 and earned $44 million from 3,824 domestic screens during its opening weekend. Since then, the film has grossed $114.8 million domestically and $121.3 million internationally for a worldwide total of $236.1 million. Notably, its production budget stood at $115 million with marketing costs of approximately $80 million.
The film follows Kellner after he steals classified files proving the existence of extraterrestrial life from a secretive government contractor. He then teams up with Fairchild after she develops an otherworldly psychic ability during a live broadcast. Together, the pair races to disclose the footage globally while evading dangerous forces.
Disclosure Day currently holds an 80% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 424 reviews. The site’s Critics Consensus reads, “A humanistic variation on one of Steven Spielberg’s most revisited themes, Disclosure Day’s breathless pursuit of optimism in an age of conspiracy gets its biggest boost from career-highlight work by Emily Blunt.”
Audiences gave it a “B” CinemaScore grade. The film also remains in theaters and will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on August 25.
