Steven Spielberg fans who have been waiting for a substantial update on the sequel to 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin have finally received an exciting answer from Peter Jackson. In a recent interview, the director of The Lord of the Rings talked about the progress on part 2 of the animated classic, offering two promising updates on the much-awaited project.
Peter Jackson’s Tintin sequel update is the best thing fans could’ve hoped for
While talking with Gold Derby‘s Richard Taylor in a Zoom call, Jackson revealed that he and writer Fran Walsh have “wrapped up” the script of the Tintin sequel.
“Fran and I have been writing a script for the next Tintin film because 15 years ago, Steven Spielberg directed a Tintin film and I produced it,” the accredited filmmaker noted.
In addition, Peter Jackson all but confirmed that the animated feature will be his next directorial venture. “The idea was that then I was supposed to go straight onto a second one, and we’d swap the roles, so I’d direct the second one, and he’d produce it.
It’s just taken 15 years to get there, unfortunately, a bit late. But it’s a timeless story. So we just wrapped up. So probably the next film that I’d actually direct is a Tintin movie,” he added.
Released 15 years ago, The Adventures of Tintin had an underwhelming domestic box-office run, earning just over $77 million. However, it exploded in the international market, raking in close to $300 million at the global box office, as per Box Office Mojo.
Additionally, the movie also earned impressive reviews from critics and audiences alike, as evidenced by its 75% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Peter Jackson’s Tintin update comes just two months after he reassured fans that he had been actively working on the project. In a May 2026 interview, the 64-year-old director noted that he felt “very awkward” about not having made the film in the last 15 years and that the sequel was “an active real thing, and I’m getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it.”
