Jared Leto Morbius Featurette Debuts Ahead of Tomorrow’s Trailer

A brand new Morbius featurette for Sony Pictures’ long-delayed Marvel film has been released, confirming the release of a new trailer tomorrow. The film is currently scheduled to hit the theaters on Friday, January 28, 2022.

The video, which you can check out in the player below, features a commentary from Oscar winner Jared Leto as he continues to hype up the arrival of the titular anti-hero, while teasing the character’s unique powers. Leto also talks about how it was a challenging role for him to play to due its demanding physicality where he got to portray two different sides of the vampire hero. It also fleshes out the Marvel Universe that the film takes place in, with a Daily Bugle paper name-dropping two familiar Spider-Man characters.

Originally Dr. Michael Morbius, the scientist character tried to cure his rare blood disease only to become afflicted with a form of vampirism that gave him superior strength, fangs, and a taste for the red stuff. The character fought Spider-Man several times, though eventually earned several of his own books where he had a more heroic arc. He has an ongoing feud with the character Blade the Vampire Hunter in the comics.

The character previously appeared on TV in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Ultimate Spider-Man Vs The Sinister Six, and was originally earmarked to make his film debut in Blade until his cameo was deleted and plans to make him the villain in Blade II scrapped.
