Yes, Please Give Us Kraven for ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’

I actually hope this ends up coming true as director Marc Webb tells ComicBook.com he’s considering Kraven the Hunter as the villain for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

“Kraven. I like the idea of Kraven. The Vulture. Ock. I always thought the idea of Mysterio was interesting. Maybe Scorpion. But really, Kraven I think is kind of interesting,” Webb told the site.

Now, if you’re anything like me and have no idea who the hell this Kraven guy is, that’s an interesting story. According to Wikipedia, and I’m paraphrasing here, Kraven the hunter is a Russian immigrant whose real name is Sergei Kravinoff and he’s a big game hunter who sees Spider-Man as the ultimate prey. He prefers to hunt big dangerous animals and does so using his hands, not guns, and he apparently drinks a “mystical serum” that slows the aging process and gives him enhanced strength.

Kraven is ultimately contacted by his half-brother, the Chameleon, who got caught impersonating Spider-Man in a botched job and now wants to team with Kraven to catch him.

This is perfect, a perfect continuation of a series of villains conjured up out of necessity rather than story significance. It seems like Spider-Man’s villains are all just too dumb to know any better. He doesn’t win because he has superior ability, he only wins because they are all idiots, picking a fight for no reason.

If Kraven does become the villain we’d better get a scene where he’s out hunting a rhinoceros (you like the shape of the rhinoceros?). He sees it, charges and takes it down. Basking in the glory that is himself, he stands… wearing orange and black striped spandex, one foot on the fallen animal, when his phone rings… “Hello?” he says in Russian.

“Sergei,” the voice on the other line whispers. “It is me, the Chameleon… I mean Dmitri, your half-brother. Come to New York to help me capture the Spider-Man.”

“Why?” he asks, again in Russian.

“Because I imitated him and got caught, now I hate him! Oh, and he’s super sneaky, I betcha can’t catch ‘im!”

“I am coming,” he grunts, the soundtrack to The Lion King has been playing in the background the whole time and it slowly fades before…. dun, dun, dun!

Next scene, Spider-Man whipping around the city, “Wheeeeee! Woo hoo! Howdy Mr. Police Officer.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 hits theaters on June 10, 2016.
