Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey can serve as a major inspiration for future Spider-Man films, according to Tom Holland. Having worked on both franchises, the English actor believes that Marvel Studios can take extensive notes from Nolan’s upcoming fantasy epic while composing Spider-Man movies post Brand New Day.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+ at The Odyssey press day in London, Holland noted that Marvel can learn how to make more grounded superhero movies, including ones centered on the iconic web-slinger, from Nolan’s much-awaited feature.
While praising the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Holland stated, “[Christopher Nolan]’s desire to be practical and to keep things in camera creates an atmosphere on-set which really inspires people to be creative and think outside the box. There are things I saw on this movie which I’ve never seen before, and they’re very simple. It just requires forward thinking and planning.”
He then explained how The Odyssey can help Marvel make better Spider-Man movies by saying, “I come from the kind of superhero space, which I absolutely adore. I love playing [Spider-Man]. I think there are things that we could do in the future that can improve those movies by being more practical and finding ways to make people believe that what they’re watching is real.”
In fact, the Matt Damon-led feature has already left its mark on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. “We’ve made a real suit, and we did real stunts, stuff like that,” Holland revealed. “I think that lots of people can learn from what Chris is able to do.”
The 30-year-old actor who embodies Odysseus’ son Telemachus in The Odyssey, which comes out on the big screen on July 17. Meanwhile, Holland’s fourth solo outing as the fan-favorite wall crawler, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, swings into theaters two weeks later on July 31, 2026.
