I’m sitting in the Toronto airport preparing to first head to Chicago and then back home to Seattle after a very long, but rewarding time at the Toronto Film Festival. I saw my final movie this morning and now we take a look at the reader predictions for this weekend’s box-office with four films I haven’t even seen. Not sure the last time that happened, but it’s very realistic that of the top five films at the box office this weekend I will have only seen one.
At the top is obviously going to be the horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 2 and the readers and Laremy disagree by a rather wide margin on just how much it will make, a difference of $4.6 million in fact. Insidious opened with $13.2 million two years ago and the readers are predicting more than double that number. I’m sure the success of director James Wan‘s The Conjuring played some roll in that, but I’m not sure horror fans are that dedicated to certain directors. We shall see.
Next is The Family where this time Laremy is $1.5 million higher than the readers who see only $9.7 million in the film’s future. Both Laremy and the readers are predicting a nearly 58% drop from Riddick‘s opening weekend and a second weekend, $8 million finish.
The finally is the Spanish-language release from Lionsgate, Instructions Not Included, which added another 215 theaters this weekend and is now up to 932. Readers and Laremy are close on this one, predicting only a small dip in numbers from last weekend as it approaches a $30 million cume.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
