Evil Dead Burn has recorded a softer box office debut than Evil Dead Rise, giving the latest chapter in the horror franchise a more muted theatrical debut. The film opened 44 percent below its predecessor at the domestic box office. Its performance over the coming weeks will determine whether it can recover from the softer debut.
Evil Dead Burn box office opens less than $15 million
The latest chapter in the Evil Dead franchise has opened below expectations at the domestic box office. According to Box Office Mojo, Evil Dead Burn collected $13.7 million in North America during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, its worldwide total reached $40.7 million, including $27 million from international markets.
The opening marks a steep decline from Evil Dead Rise, which launched with $24 million domestically in 2023. The film went on to become a commercial success, finishing its run with $147 million worldwide. This includes $67.2 million from North America and $79.9 million from international markets.
This places Evil Dead Burn approximately 44 percent behind its predecessor’s debut. Despite its smaller opening, Evil Dead Burn was made on a reported $20 million budget. The film could still become profitable if it maintains steady box office earnings in the coming weeks.
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, Evil Dead Burn was released on July 10, 2026, as the sixth installment in the Evil Dead franchise. The story follows a grieving widow who turns to her late husband’s family for support, only to find herself trapped in a nightmare as members of the household are transformed into Deadites. As the supernatural horror escalates, she is forced to fight for survival against the evil consuming her family.
The cast includes Souheila Yacoub as Alice Price, Tandi Wright as Susan Price, Hunter Doohan as Joseph Price, Luciane Buchanan as Thya, and Erroll Shand as Edgar Price, among others.
Despite a softer box office debut, Evil Dead Burn has been well-received by audiences and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 71 percent critics’ score based on 141 reviews, while its audience score stands at 81 percent.
