UK Teaser: Next Year’s Incredible It Follows

In the same way you might have spent much of 2014 hearing all about The Babadook (dook, dook, dook), get ready for several months of (much deserved) hype on David Robert Mitchell’s disquieting, new American horror gem, It Follows. The latest international teaser has arrived and its use of Albertus is no accident.

Empire has debuted the exclusive UK trailer for It Follows, on the heels of a recent French clip, both of which highlight the truly ominous nature of the film. It Follows is releasing in both France and the UK this February, and in the case of the latter, it’s particularly appropriate that distributor Icon used Albertus (aka John Carpenter font) in the announcement. It’s not simple nostalgia, either. Though the titles certainly evoke a fond feeling, as does It Follows‘ sheen-synth score, director David Robert Mitchell nails an essential and frightening aspect of Carpenter horror: composition.

It Follows stars The Guest’s Maika Monroe and concerns a sexually transmitted haunting. “After a romantic night out, a beautiful nineteen-year-old girl finds herself pursued by a legion of malevolent, lumbering phantoms that will pursue her forever — unless she passes the curse on to someone else.” The film tackles relationships of the young, sexual activity and does so with masterful framing, which will have you frantically searching the screen throughout.

Radius-TWC will release It Follows in the U.S. in 2015, though there’s no confirmed date just yet. If you’ll be at next month’s Sundance Film Festival, you can catch the film as part of the Park City at Midnight section. It is highly, highly recommended you do so.
