Fans are wondering if Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy is in the Madame Web movie. Here is everything you need to know.
Is Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in the Madame Web movie?
No, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man does not make an appearance in the Madame Web movie.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man does not appear in any way in Madame Web. The other live-action Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland also do not appear. Instead, Madame Web focuses on the adventures of Dakota Johnson’s clairvoyant Cassandra Webb and Spider-Women Julia Cornwall, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon. They must try to elude the enigmatic Ezekiel Sims, who wants to hunt all of them down and disrupt their futures.
However, there are what could be considered two vague references to Maguire’s Spider-Man in the movie. One is a shot in the film that reuses footage from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2. In the footage, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man runs as he switches to his Spider-Man outfit, with a shot of a zoom-in immediately following it. The shot in Madame Web uses only one particular shot from the Spider-Man 2 footage which is the building zoom-in. This can be seen in the video posted below.
Unfortunately for Madame Web, this choice caused fans to troll the film heavily online on X (formerly Twitter). One fan questioned the movie’s budget while another fan claimed the critically-panned Morbius looked better in comparison.
The other reference is a line in the film that reverses the classic Uncle Ben line said to Maguire’s Spider-Man in the original 2002 Spider-Man film: “With great power comes great responsibility”. Madame Web instead tells a reverse version of the same line via one of the tribal Spider-People which is:
“When you take on the responsibility, great power will come.”
