New PlayStation Plus Game Lineup (Mostly) Revealed

Sony’s new revamped PlayStation Plus is only about a week away for some territories and a month away for most of them. To get ahead of this, the company announced “some” of the games that will be hitting the service at launch. As promised, it includes titles from all PlayStation generations except for the Vita and certain games only apply to certain tiers of the service.

The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium (also called Deluxe in some territories) tiers will have the following PlayStation 4 an PlayStation 5 games. Most are PS4 games, but there are a select few PS5 games, as well.

Sony did say that its list only had some of the games and Ubisoft followed up by revealing a handful more on its own website that will hit on day one. Ubisoft plans to have 50 of its classic titles by the end of 2022 on its Ubisoft+ Classics lineup, which is a subsection of Ubisoft+ that will come to both Ubisoft+ subscribers and PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. New PS4 and PS5 games will also be cycled in at the beginning of each month.

PlayStation Premium will also get a slew of older games, too, and Sony confirmed a few theories about them in the process of revealing its list. Some will have improved frame rates and higher resolutions. A handful of select PS1 and PSP games will also have a new user interface that will allow users to save at any time and rewind, much like the older titles offered in Nintendo Switch Online. Those who have also digitally purchased select classics games being offered in the subscription will also not have to sign up for PlayStation Plus or make a separate purchase to play them on PS4 or PS5. For example, it seems as though if you bought Ape Escape when it was offered digitally on PS3, you should just get the game, no strings or subscriptions attached.

Sony also confirmed that some of the titles will be available for individual purchase, which some theorized back at its announcement. However, Sony didn’t comment on the possibility of adding trophies to these old games. It’s unclear if they will get trophies, but the PS2 on PS4 games will likely have trophies since those PS4 ports did. The first block are original PS1 games with a lone PSP game in the mix. The second block is full of PS2 games that are, again, the PS2 on PS4 games.

The third block is a bit unusual. They’re all remasters that released on PS4, but it seems as though Sony is using the loophole of them originally being older titles to throw them in the Premium tier. For example, Bioshock first came out on PS3, but even though the 2016 PS4 remaster is being used, it seems to only be available for PlayStation Plus Premium members even though those with Extra get access to PS4 games. It’s unclear how all other PS4 remasters of PS3 games are going to be treated since Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, a PS4 port of a PS3 game, is being offered in Extra.

New classic titles will also be cycled in the middle of each month.

There are also a slew of PS3 titles that can only be streamed for PlayStation Plus Premium members on PS4, PS5, and PC. But Sony noted that users must have an internet connection with 15 mbps in order to stream in 1080p. An undetermined number of the aforementioned games (except for PS5) can also be streamed for those with PlayStation Plus Premium, but these PS3 titles can only be streamed.

There will also be limited trials of some titles. These let users play the full game for two hours, but thankfully the timer only counts with players are in the game. Trophies and save data will carry over if users decide to purchase the title. Six games will launch with trials.
