Announced earlier this year, Saw: Genesis will soon be playable for fans of the horror franchise. The multiplayer game is being published by Bloober Team, which made the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake in 2024, with more on the way. It will be the third video game spinning out of the Saw franchise.
What is the update on Saw: Genesis?
Bloober Team has announced that Saw: Genesis is entering closed alpha, and the first playtests will start July 16, 2026. The publisher also revealed plans for more playtests ahead of the game’s Early Access release. Saw: Genesis will be a part of the Gamescom 2026 presentation, which will take place in late August this year. Unlike the films, the game is set in the aftermath of World War I, bringing a new take on the horror franchise.
Those interested in participating in the playtest can sign up for it on the game’s official website. Following a survey, interested players will have to sign an NDA before getting access to it. Bloober Team says that the feedback gathered from the tests will “help refine multiplayer balance, evaluate technical performance, improve core mechanics, and evolve the game’s meta.”
Saw: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer game. Players can take on the role of the “accused”, who must work together to solve puzzles, escape traps, and collect keys before a timer runs out. On the other side, players can embody the “judge”, who can torment the accused by using traps, toxins, and more in its procedurally generated levels.
The Saw franchise’s last entry was Saw X, set between the first two films and focusing on John Kramer’s misadventures in Mexico. Since then, the franchise found a new home at Blumhouse. James Wan, the director of the original Saw, is heavily involved in developing Saw 11 and is currently “mapping out the future of the Saw universe,” according to Lionsgate’s President of International.
Besides Saw, another legacy horror franchise, Halloween, is also getting a new video game, releasing later this year.
Saw: Genesis is being developed for PC and doesn’t have a release date. It is being developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios.
