Coach Carter Scores with DVD Sales

Paramount Home Entertainment’s Coach Carter topped Nielsen VideoScan’s First Alert preliminary national sales charts its first week in stores, pushing Sony’s Hitch to the second spot for the week ending June 26.

Hitch did, however, remain on top of Home Media Retailing’s rental chart for the same week, generating an additional $10.3 million to boost its take to $21.1 million after two weeks in stores.

One new release, Warner Home Video’s The Jacket, generated $5 million in rental revenue alone, nearly as much as it grossed in theaters ($6.3 million).

Meanwhile, on the sales front, a batch of newcomers nabbed four of the top five sales spots on the First Alert sales chart. Warner’s Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous came in third, followed by two Buena Vista titles: Hostage in fourth place and Cursed at No. 5.
