Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have more surprises than Sadie Sink’s mystery role for fans later this month. Many elements of the upcoming film’s plot have been shrouded in secrecy since the project was announced. Brand New Day will see Peter Parker undergo a genetic mutation that grants him powers including organic webbing, but it will also come with a darker side.
What did Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s director say about the movie’s twists?
In a new interview with Nerdtropolis, director Destin Daniel Cretton teased that the film contains bigger surprises than Sadie Sink’s mystery character.
At the start of the interview, he said, “Anybody who goes ahead and sees this movie on opening weekend, you’re going to have a lot more than just Sadie Sink to talk about.”
Cretton acknowledged the speculation surrounding Sink’s casting and encouraged fans to discover the answers for themselves after the film’s release. Previous reports have pointed to Sink playing Jean Grey in the film, but neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures have commented on the matter. However, the trailers have led some fans to speculate that Sink is playing a villainous role. Cretton’s comments suggest that the film is hiding even bigger twists than just Sink’s character reveal.
Sink’s character won’t be the only one Spider-Man fights in the film. The fourth Spider-Man entry will see the hero battle the Hand, Scorpion, and even the Hulk. He won’t be alone, though, as Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is also joining the web-slinger in the new adventure. It will be the second time that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker shares the screen with heroes from Marvel’s Netflix shows. Previously, Peter shared the screen with Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Fans won’t have to wait long, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, 2026.
