The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has revealed the future of the MCU, and it seems years longer than previously imagined. The blockbuster superhero cinematic franchise initially kicked off in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man.
How long is Kevin Feige’s future MCU Timeline
During a Q&A session while promoting Avengers: Doomsday, Kevin Feige touched upon the future timeline of the MCU moving forward. Feige said that his team has plans for the MCU to continue till 2042. “We’re just in a Marvel Studios conference room, and we’ve planned a movie until 2042.”
However, he also presented uncertainty over the franchise and whether it will stay as relevant among fans as it is now. Feige added, “As for whether we can hold on until 2042? Who knows. Will it be those movies that will be made? Who knows.”
Following the vast success of Iron Man in 2008, the MCU never looked back. Since then, it has expanded unprecedentedly with multiple movies as well as TV shows. The Infinity Saga ended seven years ago with Avengers: Endgame.
For the past five years, fans have watched the Multiverse Saga take center stage, with films and TV projects building up the upcoming two Avengers films, namely Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. They are set to arrive on December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027, respectively.
After Secret Wars, the next chapter of the MCU will see the dawn of the Mutant Saga, where the X-Men will stay in the spotlight. Early members of the team are already rumored to make their debuts in the franchise.
While it’s not confirmed yet, Sadie Sink is rumored to be playing Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Moving further, Black Panther 3 is expected to feature mutants, including the character of Storm. However, these are still unverified reports and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
As for the rebooted X-Men movie, it will be helmed by Jake Schreier, who previously made 2025’s hit Thunderbolts*.
