Avengers: Doomsday MCU Trailer Almost Set Huge Viewership Record, Here’s Why It Didn’t

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer amassed a lot of views, but not enough to break Marvel Studios’ own record. The trailer’s online debut was followed by Disney opening ticket bookings for the upcoming film, breaking box office records held by last year’s Marvel entries. To meet overwhelming fan demand, theater exhibitors are already adding more showtimes four months ahead of the film’s release.

Why didn’t the Avengers: Doomsday MCU trailer set a huge viewership record?

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer, according to Variety, got 503 million views over 24 hours. While that’s a lot of views, it’s not quite enough to become the biggest movie trailer launch of all time. That crown still belongs to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which got over 719 million views in the same timeframe.

At the time of writing, Avengers: Doomsday is now in second place, which is still impressive. It beat Marvel’s own 2024 release, Deadpool & Wolverine, with its trailer viewership. The film’s pre-sales already outgrossed the combined pre-sales for its 2025 releases in just two hours.

The trailer was first shown to attendees at CinemaCon earlier in April. Following that, several leaks and fan recreations began to spoil what appeared in it and beyond. Marvel had previously released four separate teasers, focused on Steve Rogers, Thor, the X-Men, and the Wakandans meeting the Fantastic Four, attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Disney also restricted ticket bookings to theaters with the Infinity Vision certification, which amounted to 1000 screens in North America. When the film arrives in December, it will open to 4000 screens across the country. For three weeks, Disney will have to make do with regular and premium large format theaters before it can put Doomsday on IMAX screens due to Dune: Part 3.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Avengers: Doomsday in theaters when it releases on December 18, 2026.
