According to Weibo (via Cosmic Marvel), Kevin Feige spoke about the future of the MCU in a recent press conference. The Marvel Studios president spoke about the plans for Avengers: Secret Wars and how it will not only conclude the current storyline but also kick off a new era.
Feige said, “Secret Wars will represent a beginning. It will establish a streamlined, simplified, single universe that’s easier for audiences to follow. Some aspects will feel familiar. But many, many things will be entirely new.” He added, “Earlier we talked about attracting younger audiences and connecting with a new generation. That’s exactly what this next universe is intended to do. And at its core…will be the X-Men.”
Avengers: Secret Wars aims to achieve two primary objectives. The first is to provide closure to long-standing arcs, including those that have been building up since the original X-Men films. The second goal is to set the stage for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The X-Men are slated to play a key part in the upcoming chapter. Marvel has previously stated that an X-Men reboot is in the works, making the franchise a key component of the studio’s future.
