Movies on Blu-ray/DVD

Above Suspicion

This crime thriller starring Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston is now on Blu-ray. Based on a true story, Clarke plays Susan Smith, a young woman that is recruited by FBI agent Mark Putnam (Huston) to be an informant.

The Father

Anthony Hopkins’ Academy Award winning performance is now on Blu-ray. This drama deals with a father suffering from dementia and losing his grip on reality.

Hunted

This horror film is directed and co-written by Vincent Paronnaud and sees a woman named Eve (Lucie Debay) get abducted and attempt to flee from her attacker in the nearby woods.

Minari

The well-received film starring Steven Yeun and Youn Yuh-jung sees a Korean family move to Arkansas in search of the American dream.

Raya and the Last Dragon

Disney’s animated film is now available to own. It takes place in the fantasy world of Kumandra and it’s up to one warrior to track down the last dragon in order to restore a fractured land.

Son

Son‘s description reads, “After a mysterious group of individuals breaks into Laura’s home and attempts to abduct her eight-year-old son, David, the two of them flee town in search of safety. But soon after the failed kidnapping, David becomes extremely ill, suffering from increasingly sporadic psychosis and convulsions. Following her maternal instincts to save him, Laura commits unspeakable acts to keep him alive, but soon she must decide how far she is willing to go to save her son.”

Tom & Jerry

The family comedy based upon the classic cartoon series is now available to own. Expect plenty of hijinks from the beloved cat and mouse.

Criterion Corner

Flowers of Shanghai

Hou Hsiao-hsien’s classic 1998 Taiwan film is now available in 4K. It features a documentary on the making of the film, a 2015 interview with Hou, English subtitle translation by Rayns and a new cover by Victo Ngai. The film features “romantic intrigue, jealousies, and tensions swirling around four late-nineteenth-century Shanghai “flower houses,” where courtesans live confined to a gilded cage, ensconced in opulent splendor but forced to work to buy back their freedom. Among the regular clients is the taciturn Master Wang (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), whose relationship with his longtime mistress (Michiko Hada) is roiled by a perceived act of betrayal.”

Beastars Vol. 12

The hit manga by Paru Itagaki continues. The description reads, “As a consequence of his savage battle with brown bear Riz, doors begin to close for gray wolf Legoshi, and he must strike out on his own. Temptation arises when he makes a new herbivore friend, Merino sheep Seven, who is being harassed at work by her carnivore colleagues. Then we finally meet the current valiant Beastar, horse Yahya, who shares a history with Legoshi’s family. Like Legoshi and Louis, Yahya strives to make the world a better place—but do his ends justify his means? And finally, both Louis and Legoshi must come to terms with their father figures…”

Yearbook by Seth Rogen

This actually came out last week, but is still worth highlighting. Seth Rogen’s Yearbook features some hilarious tales of celebrities. The pages on his now legendary meeting with Kanye West are worth the purchase by their own.

Reissues

Charmed: The Complete Third Season

The supernatural fantasy drama’s third season is now available on Blu-ray. It stars Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano as witches.

Last Action Hero 4K

This 1993 comedic action film has become a cult classic despite being a commercial disappointment. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a police detective in this parody.

Mackintosh and T.J. 4K

Roy Rodgers’ final film is now available on Blu-ray and has been restored in 4K.

Mission: Impossible 25th Anniversary Limited Edition

The Tom Cruise classic is now 25-years-old. This limited edition Blu-ray version includes a collectible car decal along with the latest remastered version of the action flick.

National Lampoon’s Animal House 4K

One of the greatest comedies of all-time is now available in 4K. It features HDR and bonus features include several Scene It? games and a reunion and alumni update.

The Sting 4K

Released in 1973, The Sting stars Paul Newman and Robert Redford as two con men. The film won Best Picture from the Academy Awards and is a classic. Featuring HDR, art and several looks at Universal’s films of the 1970s, this is packed with great features.

New On Digital HD

Blast Beat

Out May 21, Blast Beat follows Colombian brothers Carly (Mateo Arias) and Mateo (Moises Arias), who “prepare to move to the United States for their last years of high school. Metalhead Carly has his heart set on attending the Georgia Aerospace Institute and working for NASA, while his supportive parents (Diane Guerrero and Wilmer Valderrama) seize the chance to escape the political turmoil in Colombia and chase the American Dream. At first, Mateo is the only one to express any cynicism, but when the reality of their new life sinks in, the family struggles to adapt as their expectations are shattered. When events threaten to derail their future, Carly’s dream becomes his only lifeline.”

Four Good Days

This substance abuse drama stars Glenn Close and Mila Kunis. It’s out May 21.

Georgetown

Out today, Georgetown stars Christoph Waltz and Vanessa Redgrave in a true story of a “smooth-talking social climber scaling the ranks in D.C., who becomes under investigation when his wealthy, well-connected older wife turns up dead in their home.”

PG: Psycho Goreman

Releasing May 20 on Shudder, this spoof sees siblings Mimi and Luke unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord who was entombed on Earth millions of years ago after a failed attempt to destroy the universe.

Seance

Out May 20, “Camille Meadows is the new girl at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. Soon after her arrival, six girls invite her to join them in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.”

Take Out Girl

Out today digitally, this film stars Hedy Wong as an Asian restaurant worker turned drug runner. Check out our interview with Wong and director Hisonni Johnson to learn more about the film’s themes and its exploration of criminality.

Inuyasha Set 5

The fifth set of Inuyasha features episode 112 through 139.

Karakuri Circus: Complete Collection

All 36 episodes are included in this five-disc set. It revolves around a martial artist named Narumi Kato that rescues a young boy … that isn’t even human but rather a puppet.

Nekopara: The Complete Series

If you love catgirls then you’ve found the right anime. Based upon the popular visual novel series, this includes the full series totaling 300 minutes and textless opening and ending songs.

Sakura Wars: The Animation

Based upon the video game of the same name, all 12 episodes of the 2020 anime are included in this set from Funimation. Special features include commercials, a promotional video, teaser, plus textless opening and ending songs.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 1

The first season of the Star Trek animated season is now available. It is loaded with two hours of special features including the “Lower Decktionaries” and features plenty of laughs.

Rugrats: The Complete Series

Every episode on Rugrats is now available in one DVD set!
