Adventure Time Creator Developing a New Animated Series Catbug

According to Deadline, Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward will again be teaming up with Frederator Studios to develop and produce a new animated series titled Catbug, based on the popular recurring character from Ward and Frederator Studios’ web series Bravest Warriors.

“[Catbug has] become a true meme or internet culture, spurring parodies and references to his quirky lines from the show,” CEO of Frederator and Chief Creative Officer of Wow! Unlimited Media, Fred Seibert said in a statement.

Catbug is described as a mix of a blue cat and a ladybug. Since the character’s first appearance in the first season of the Bravest Warriors in 2013, it had become an instant fan-favorite who has been garnering more than 25 million views on videos centering on Catbug. The character is also popular as a GIF with over 200 million loops on Giphy.com and on the short-form video-sharing app TikTok with 135 million views.

Frederator Studios has already begun pitching the series to streaming services and networks, planning to supplement it with a social networking plan, short-form animated videos, e-books, and webcomics.

Currently, Pendleton Ward is also busy working on the upcoming four-hour long specials for Cartoon Network’s beloved and award-winning animated series Adventure Time titled Adventure Time: Distant LandsThe revival series will premiere sometime next year on HBO Max.
