Plot Summary: Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable... and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City... and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by "the Infected"—victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville's every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.

I would give it a 6.5/10, mostly because of SMITH. I want a much needed DIRECTOR'S CUT! It was really choppy with a crappy ending to.

knokout pimp,

what exactly do you want to be explained? Dr. creates a cure....which turns to a resilient virus....and then it jumps to the air....people start going bezerk!.....So, I would like to know, what wasn't explained? I found this movie to great!!!

After seeing this three times on DVD I am convinced that it is better than people think. I thought it was very, very good. Smith was good and he drove along a good screenplay. I don't have too much of a problem with the ending, it could have been better, but under those circustances, what else was he suppose to do? It also added to the whole "Legend" concept. I really feel like Smith was robbed of an Academy Award nomination. He was terrific and he really does make you feel like he is the last man on earth. I'll give it a solid: 7/10. This was the most underrated movie of 2007 along with Breach.

I enjoyed the alternate ending infintely over the theatrical. It made more sense to me, though it deviated from the book a bit. But so did the whole movie. The tone of the book was there, so I guess it didn't matter in the end.

I *did* feel that the movie started to fall apart when the girl and child came into the picture. In the book, the girl was actually ANOTHER form of the vampire so that's what I was expecting in the film.

The other problem I had was the goofy CG looking vampires. I would normally say that "real" looking vampires (i.e. NO CG) is way scarier than CG looking vamps. Though I heard they went the CG route to get their PG-13 rating. Would love to see the new version of this movie (with the alternate ending) without the CG mouths on the vampires. I think then it'd be a pretty solid flick.

As it stands, I agree with "J", only 6.5/10. With the new ending? Maybe a 7/10...

4.5 out of 10...

Smith was good. Lawrence is a terrible director though. Once again we have a director who decides to use CGI instead of real actors and it comes out looking like a Roger Rabbit nightmare. And then the 2 hacks that totally screwed up one of the best horror novels of all time. To get rid of the Ben Cortman character was ridiculous and then the rest of the changes made this a very mild and easy to forget film.

All in all, not the worst movie I've ever seen but let's just hope the NEXT time they remake it, they get a star as good as Will, a director who is 100 times better then Lawrence (and thats not saying much....did you see Constantine...yuck!), and screenwriters that will not F up something great!

I think Lawrence did a great job with the material he had. He had some really cool shots. My personal fav. was Smith hanging upside down in the trap, cool camera placement. But anyway, it's all to each his own. And he used real actors combined with CGI :)

the alt. version of the film is loads better!!
