One of the most underrated action fantasy movies will soon disappear from Netflix. Starring Travis Fimmel from Vikings, the movie is a 2016 cinematic adaptation of a popular video game series from Blizzard Entertainment.
Warcraft is leaving Netflix next month
Warcraft is exiting Netflix on August 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. Some of the other movies leaving the streamer that day are National Lampoon’s Animal House, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Hacksaw Ridge, and American Gangster.
Duncan Jones, who previously helmed movies like Moon (2009) and Source Code, helmed Warcraft from a script he penned with Charles Leavitt. The plot mainly revolves around Travis Fimmel’s Anduin Lothar, the human commander of Stormwind Kingdom’s army, and Toby Kebbell’s Durotan, the honorable chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan.
When an orc horde arrives in the world of Azeroth, Lothar and his allies have to band together to stop their aggression. However, it soon becomes apparent that things aren’t as simple as it seems. Lothar, Durotan, and others must set aside their differences to fight the true evil.
The cast also includes Paula Patton as Garona, Ben Foster as Medivh, Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar, Robert Kazinsky as Orgrim Doomhammer, and Daniel Wu as Gul’dan.
Warcraft had its world premiere at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France, on May 24, 2016, before releasing in US theaters on June 10, 2016. The movie grossed over $439 million worldwide against a $160 million production budget (via Box Office Mojo). The movie currently has a 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Gary Wolcott of Tri-City Herald was one of the few critics who gave Warcraft a positive review.
“It’s The Lord of the Rings on steroids,” Wolcott shared. “Shallow plot, but hey, it’s based on a game, so how deep can it be? Unlike some, I was able to overlook the flaws and had a good time.”
