An iconic X-Men character was cut from Deadpool due to an inevitable issue. The 2016 Marvel movie was helmed by Tim Miller featuring Ryan Reynolds in the lead role of Wade Wilson.
What X-Men character nearly had their live-action debut in the first Deadpool movie?
Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool in Marvel comics, recently revealed an exciting fact about the decade-old R-rated movie that made Wade Wilson a household name.
While it featured various live-action iterations of popular Marvel characters such as Weasel, Ajax, Teenage Warhead, Angel Dust, and Colossus, Deadpool had one more character, Garrison Kane or Weapon X, connected to the X-Men. The character almost made his live-action debut with the blockbuster movie.
Liefeld revealed this astonishing detail on his X account while also sharing the one major reason leading to Kane’s removal from Deadpool’s cast. He said, “My Main Man KANE has made his debut!”, he wrote while adding that his character was eventually cut “for budgetary reasons!”
In another related post, Liefeld spoke about the entire incident of how Kane was removed from Deadpool. Director Tim Miller had actually called him four weeks before filming began on Deadpool. He told Liefeld, “Rob, we lost Kane. The budget was cut again…”
Liefeld added, “I sucked it up like a winner. Getting a great Deadpool was the win. But Rhett & Paul had written a pair of great, big, action sequences with the 2 of them.”

Created by Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza in Marvel comics, Kane has been part of teams closely associated with the X-Men.
Also, Kane’s been a very crucial member of the X-Force. The team even showed up in 2018’s Deadpool 2. Its members included Domino, Bedlam, Shatterstar, Zeitgeist, and The Vanisher. Had Kane featured in the first Deadpool film, fans would have witnessed him in the sequel as well.
