The Odyssey: Why Robert Pattinson Thought Matt Damon Was a ‘Complete Psycho’ on Set

The Odyssey star Robert Pattinson has shared a hilarious incident where he thought Matt Damon was a “complete psycho.” Pattinson plays Antinous in the epic fantasy action film, one of the suitors competing for Penelope’s hand in marriage during Odysseus’ absence.

What did Robert Pattinson say about Matt Damon on The Odyssey set?

In a new interview with MTV U.K., Robert Pattinson has explained why he thought Matt Damon, whom he had previously perceived as a nice guy, was acting like a “complete psycho” on set.

“Matt was in the trailer next to me, and he was making these noises. He is such a nice guy… I thought he was on the phone, and I thought he was a complete psycho. He was just screaming and screaming and screaming. I thought he was having a really bad toilet experience. He was just blowing his voice out just to sound older. Like, really, you’re taking years off your life by doing this.”

Tom Holland, who plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, also chimed in, calling Damon’s prep work “amazing.”

Pattinson will next be seen in Dune Part 3, which releases later this year. The 40-year-old is currently filming The Batman Part II, which was recently delayed to 2028. Both Pattinson and Damon have worked with The Odyssey director Christopher Nolan in previous projects.

Damon’s last collaboration with Nolan was on Oppenheimer, where he played General Leslie Groves, and Pattinson appeared as a co-lead in Nolan’s Tenet. Furthermore, Damon is also producing Ben Affleck’s upcoming film Animals.

Ahead of the film’s release, its reviews have set a new record for Nolan’s filmography, while critics have noted some striking similarities between it and Oppenheimer.

The Odyssey marks Pattinson and Damon’s first collaboration on a film, which will release in theaters on July 17, 2026.
