House of the Dragon Creator Teases Season 2’s Most Brutal Scene

One of the most anticipated scenes in the upcoming House of the Dragon Season 2 is referred to as “Blood and Cheese.” Without spoiling the premise, Blood and Cheese is one of the most brutal moments from the novel Fire & Blood. It’s so vicious that it rivals “The Red Wedding” from Game of Thrones.

Even House of Dragon co-creator Ryan Condal was blown away by Blood and Cheese after reading it for the first time.

“I remember reading it and just thinking wow, ‘George kind of outdid himself in his own George-ness’ in terms of finding the awful depths of certain characters,” Condal told Den of Geek. “It is not a feel-good story. As with the original Game of Thrones, there are moments of true hope and humanity that shine through the bleakness. But it’s almost the bleakness that makes those things at work worthwhile.”

What to Expect in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Set 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon depicts the rise and fall of House Targaryen, culminating with a familial civil war known as “The Dance of Dragons.” House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood.

House of the Dragon’s ensemble cast includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Graham McTavish, Matthew Needham, Phia Saban, Bethany Antonia, and Phoebe Campbell.

New additions to the season 2 cast include Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Ser Alfred Broome, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Kieran Bew as Hugh, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

After a nearly two-year hiatus, House of the Dragon returns to HBO for its second season on June 16, 2024. It will air on HBO and stream on Max at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
