The Witcher Season 3: Henry Cavill Explains Geralt’s Neutrality

The highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s The Witcher is almost upon us, and ahead of the show, star Henry Cavill is promising that Geralt will remain as neutral as ever.

In an interview with Netflix ahead of The Witcher Season 3’s release, Cavill spoke about the elevated stakes of the upcoming season. Despite everyone looking for Ciri and Geralt’s “entire perspective on things” changing as a result, Cavill said Geralt will still keep his neutral morality intact.

“It’s still very much intact,” Cavill said. “Geralt has seen how politics work out. A lot of it’s incredibly selfish. No matter which side anyone’s on, they’re doing the thing for them. He’s like, ‘Why would I pick a side when the same thing’s going to happen?’”

The comments come after Cavill noted that Geralt normally feels “very nonchalant about these threats of war and famine and the end times,” but things change now that people are going after Ciri.

“He’s like, ‘Look. I’ve been there, done that. It’s not the end times. It’s just going to be another fight..’ because everyone is after Ciri. That changes his entire perspective on things,” said Cavill.

What do we know about The Witcher Season 3?

The Witcher Season 3 Volume 1, which will contain episodes one to five, is set to release on the platform on June 29. After that, Volume 2, which is made up of episodes six to eight, will debut on July 27.

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” reads Season 3’s synopsis. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

The upcoming third season of The Witcher will be Henry Cavill’s last, as the actor is set to move on from the series, with Liam Hemsworth replacing him in the role of Geralt of Rivia. That being said, Cavill will apparently be receiving a “heroic send-off” in the third season.

Based on the stories and novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is created and executive produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who also serves as the showrunner. Sean Daniel and Jason Brown of Sean Daniel Company are executive producing, along with Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Image.
