Watch the First Official Trailer for Xavier Dolan’s ‘Mommy’

Next Tuesday, July 22, the Toronto International Film Festival will announce the line-up for this year’s fest and perhaps one film more than any other I’m hoping (and expect) to see among those announced is Xavier Dolan‘s Mommy, which is actually set to open in Quebec on September 19, just after the fest ends, which also gives good reason as to why the first trailer for the film arrives today.

The film won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, tied with Jean-Luc Godard‘s Goodbye to Language 3D, and received kudos from damn near everyone that saw it at the fest.

The story centers on a widowed single mother (Anne Dorval), raising her violent son (Antoine Olivier Pilon) alone, finds new hope when a mysterious neighbor (Suzanne Clement) inserts herself into the mother and son’s household, providing the mother with needed support.

The trailer now has subtitles, but Dolan’s films are just as much about mood and music as they are anything else so you should be able to get a vibe for what to expect, not to mention a taste for the 1:1 aspect ratio.
