What do we see in the They Fight trailer?
They Fight is based on the 2018 documentary of the same name and follows the true story of Walt Manigan (played by Holland). He is an ex-con trying to repair his relationship with Ketta (played by Samira Wiley), the mother of his son, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The trailer shows Walt being made a coach of the D.C.-based team of teen boxers who dream of competing at the national championship. “If y’all can see past my mistakes, I promise you I’ll give you everything I’ve got,” says Walt to the young boxers in the clip.
Holland was recently seen in the 2025 drama Love, Brooklyn alongside Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise, and Carra Patterson, among others. He also appeared in the 2025 mystery thriller The Actor alongside Gemma Chan, Fabien Frankel, and Maya Calamawy.

Besides Holland, They Fight also stars DCU faces Wendell Pierce (Superman) and Andre Royo (Man of Tomorrow). Anthony B. Jenkins, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and Mykelti Williamson are also playing important roles. The movie’s script is written by Andrew Ranzi, from his 2018 documentary.
Speaking of his upcoming sports film, director Sheldon Candis was excited. “They Fight is my love letter to one of my all-time favorite directors John G. Avildsen.” He added, “It’s a Karate Kid-inspired narrative punched in the face with a John Hughes coming of age story about Southeast D.C. kids fighting to dream within amateur youth boxing.”
Following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, They Fight will release on Hulu on July 17, 2026.
