Young Woman and the Sea Video Previews ‘Ultimate Underdog Story’

Walt Disney Studios has shared the Young Woman and the Sea video for its newest biographical period drama about the life of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel.

The featurette shows director Joachim Rønning and the main cast, including Daisy Ridley, as they discussed what the audience can expect from the movie. They also explained why Ederle’s unbelievable story was important to be heard due to her impact in women’s sports. The film debuts in select theaters on May 31.

Who’s involved in Young Woman and the Sea about?

Inspired by the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, Young Woman and the Sea is directed by Joachim Rønning from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson. It is based on Glenn Stout’s novel of the same name. The film also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. In addition to leading the cast, Ridley is also serving as an executive producer alongside Rønning and John G. Scotti. It is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Omen and Jeff Nathanson.

“The film centers around an accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905,” reads the synopsis. “Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England.”
