It’s Tunes Versus Goons in New Space Jam: A New Legacy Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a brand new Space Jam: A New Legacy trailer for the highly-anticipated comedy sequel to 1996’s Michael Jordan-led Space Jam, which will now be led by NBA superstar LeBron James as he portrays a fictionalized version of himself. The video features new action-packed footage as James and the Tune Squad prepare for the highest stakes game of their lives. It also continues to hype up the Tune Squad’s court battle against the Goons, who are comprised of all-star players from the NBA and WNBA.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters and on HBO Max on Friday, July 16. Its current theatrical release date pits the sequel against Sony Pictures’ Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.

Welcome to the Jam! Basketball champion and global icon LeBron James goes on an epic adventure alongside timeless Tune Bugs Bunny with the animated/live-action event Space Jam: A New Legacy, from director Malcolm D. Lee and an innovative filmmaking team including Ryan Coogler and Maverick Carter. This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.

It also features NBA and WNBA stars, Portland Trailblazers’ Damian Lillard, New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis, Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, Los Angeles Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma, Phoenix Suns’ Chris Paul, Phoenix Mercury’s Diana Taurasi, and Los Angeles Sparks’ siblings Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip, The Best Man) from a screenplay written by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Keenan Coogler, and Terence Nance. In addition to starring, James produces the film alongside Black Panther writer/director Ryan Coogler, Maverick Carter, and Duncan Henderson. Executive producers are Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, Allison Abbate, Jesse Ehrman, Jamal Henderson, Spencer Beighley, Justin Lin, Nance, and Ivan Reitman all executive produce.
