Relativity Tries Selling ‘Jane Got a Gun’ and More During Bankruptcy Scare

Jane Got a Gun hasn’t had the best of luck. The Western had its director not show up on the first day of the shoot, actors drop out and multiple different release dates, and it looks as though the troubles facing the Natalie Portman-led and produced feature aren’t over yet.

Relativity Media, a company without a full-out hit since 2011, is on the edge of bankruptcy, and a little over a month before the movie’s September 4 release date, the company is contacting potential buyers regarding not only Jane Got a Gun, but two other high-profile features as well — the Sundance comedy The Bronze and the Nicholas Hoult/Felicity Jones-starring action-thriller Collide. Screenings for all three films are being held at the moment for potential buyers, but they have bigger sights in mind for Jane in particular.

At the moment, lawyer David Boies is trying to court Harvey Weinstein into hosting the troubled movie with his brother, Bob. Whether or not he’s interested remains to be seen, but even with the unfortunate history it’s endured it’s hard to deny a movie starring Portman, Joel Edgarton, Ewan McGregor and Noah Emmerich, to name a few.

Despite only Grace From Monaco — but the man sure loves to get some A-to-B list actors at his disposal when he can.

Producer Scott Steindorff, however, believes Jane won’t see theaters until 2016. The future for the majority of Relativity’s films, in fact, remain unclear at the moment. Only Jared Hess comedy Masterminds (Oct 9), Before I Wake and The Disappointments Room still have release dates while the Halle Berry-fronted Kidnap has a tentative February 2016 release. The Crow remake, however, is basically dead in the water, something fueled by Jack Hustons‘s departure last month.
