Obviously, every time someone writes about Jane Got a Gun they are going to feel the need to mention the departure of original director Lynn Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) one day before filming began. Ramsay was eventually replaced by Gavin O’Connor and the cast was jostled around a bit, but filming finally got underway. Then the release date was bumped, with Relativity moving the Western to September 4, 2015.
Finally, today we get out first looks at the movie, which stars Natalie Portman as a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) and ask if he will help defend her farm.
The film co-stars Rodrigo Santoro, Noah Emmerich, Ewan McGregor and Boyd Holbrook and the only question now is whether or not it will be good enough to outshine its production.
