Marvel’s Kevin Feige Talks ‘Thor 3’ Director Rumors & Future Filming Schedules

2017 is going to be a big year for Marvel Studios, serving as the first year the studio will release three films. For the last few years, Marvel has been content with two films a year, but with fan enthusiasm and ticket sales at an all time high, might as well go to three, right? That means Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, is going to be a very busy man.

During the press junket for Ant-Man, Collider asked him about the upcoming production schedule and he said, “We literally just crossed the halfway mark on [Captain America:] Civil War last week, it’s day 42 or 43 of 80. We start filming Doctor Strange in London in November. We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in February-March [2016]. We start filming Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man around the same time, around June of next year.”

Considering he can’t be in two different places at the same time, this might make some fans worried because he will presumably be splitting time between Thor: Ragnarok and the next Spider-Man film. Of course, there are plenty of talented producers surrounding Feige, so I’m sure he has that figured out.

Of the three films in production next year, the only one without a director is Thor: Ragnarok. Early commented on the possibility of Branagh saying, “Not true. I don’t know where that came from.”

As to when we’ll hear an actual announcement he added, “Probably towards the end of the summer we would announce a filmmaker and a writer. May be the same person, I don’t know, may be two different people.”

The only question I have with this filming schedule is in regards to Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1. When Chris Evans spoke about his upcoming schedule, he mentioned starting the nine months of filming Infinity War in late 2016. If that is actually true, and Feige just failed to include it in his rundown, then we’re talking about three complete productions and then the biggest one yet in the tail end of 2016. I guess at the end of the day, you can’t doubt his work ethic or judge him by the results.
