Godzilla Minus One Director Teams With Ridley Scott for Mysterious Sci-Fi Movie

Godzilla Minus One‘s acclaimed director has partnered with Ridley Scott for an upcoming mystery sci-fi movie. The project will be backed by Scott’s Scott Free Productions and the team at 20th Century Studios.

What movie are Ridley Scott and Godzilla Minus One’s director working on?

Takashi Yamazaki, who made 2023’s blockbuster Godzilla Minus One, has teamed up with Ridley Scott for a sci-fi movie, Nue, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Scott will be attached to the film as a producer through his production company.

There’s no description available for Nue’s plot, but it’s been revealed that it’s an original concept by Yamazaki. He has been developing the idea for several years.

“Nue has been a lifelong dream of mine. I am honored to have the opportunity to make it happen with the creative brilliance of Ridley Scott and Scott Free and the fantastic team at 20th Century Studios. I will do my upmost to ensure this becomes a fantastic movie for all to see,” said the director while expressing his excitement for the project.

Yamazaki earned widespread recognition for his filmmaking with Godzilla Minus One’s unprecedented success three years ago. Made on a budget of just $10 million, the film went on to earn over $115 million worldwide.

It also impressed critics as well as audiences. Currently, the movie holds a near-perfect Tomatometer score of 99% and a splendid Popcornmeter score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thanks to its captivating visuals, Godzilla Minus One also won the Best Visual Effects award at the 2024 Oscars. With that, it also became the first non-English-language movie to achieve this feat in the history of the Academy Awards.

After the enormous success of the first part, Yamazaki will follow it up with an awaited sequel, titled Godzilla Minus Zero. He has already shot the movie, and it will release later this year on November 6, 2026.

In 2028, Yamazaki will also deliver his first English-language movie, titled Grandgear, which he has written and also directed. Coming from Sony Pictures, the film will arrive on February 18, 2028.

As of writing, Nue has not yet received an official release window.
