Vin Diesel’s Fast Forever set video had fans fuming, but the truth behind it changes everything. The franchise finale’s production status is not what Diesel’s latest Instagram post suggested.
Fast Forever is not filming despite Vin Diesel’s set video update
Fast Forever is not currently in production despite Vin Diesel sharing a behind-the-scenes video last week. The star and producer posted footage on Instagram showing him on set with Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. Crew members appeared to be setting up a shot in the background. TheWrap reports that Diesel was actually filming a promo for the World Cup. The spot aired during the USA Belgium game on Sunday.
Diesel’s post quickly sent fans into a frenzy across social media. Many assumed the long-awaited sequel to 2023’s Fast X had finally entered production. In the video, Diesel praised the teams working alongside him. “I’m on set. People are grinding. Incredible crews are working,” he said. He also thanked fans for their patience with the franchise’s delayed conclusion.
The Fast & Furious franchise faces ongoing uncertainty since Fast X hit theaters. Director Louis Leterrier joined that film mid-production after original director Justin Lin departed. Fast X ended on a cliffhanger and launched a two-part finale plan. Universal still has not confirmed whether Leterrier will return to direct Fast Forever.
Several casting questions also remain unanswered heading into the final chapter. The previous installment teased returns from Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson. However, Universal has not revealed which original cast members will appear. Hunger Games prequel screenwriter Michael Lesslie now handles the script rewrite. Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean previously wrote the earlier draft.
The franchise first launched in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious. It has since grown into one of Hollywood’s biggest action series. Across ten main films, the saga earned more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office. Fast Forever targets a March 17, 2028 theatrical release. Universal Studios declined to comment on the production status.
