Cannes: First Two Clips from ‘Carol’ Starring Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara

Todd Haynes‘ hotly anticipated Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, screens this coming Saturday, May 16, in the evening at the Cannes Film Festival and we are finally getting some clips for the film.

[amz asin=”0486800296″ size=”small”]Based on Patricia Highsmith’s book “The Price of Salt”, Carol revolves around two women from different backgrounds who strike up a relationship in 1950s New York. One a young woman (Mara) working in a department store and hoping for a better life, the other a wife (Blanchett) trapped in a loveless marriage and desperate to break free, but fearful of losing her daughter in the process.

This is Haynes’ first theatrical release in eight years, though you’ll remember he directed the “Mildred Pierce” mini-series back in 2011 as well as an episode of “Enlightened” in 2013 so he hasn’t been completely off the radar. Carol, though, is expected to make some real waves once it’s finally seen.

Check out the first two clips below.
