Angelina Jolie is clearly loving her move from A-list actor to writer/director. After writing and directing her feature film debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, this year she has Unbroken with a screenplay co-written by Joel and Ethan Coen, among others, coming out and Universal is already prepping it for prime Oscar season positioning. Next up, By the Sea, which she wrote, will direct and star in opposite her husband Brad Pitt..
The details on the film are limited to it being described as an “intimate, character-driven drama”. However, back when rumblings this film may be coming together first hit the net it was speculated to be a relationship drama that Jolie wrote several years ago, centering on a couple with issues who take a vacation in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage.
If Jolie wrote it several years ago I’m sure things have likely changed a little since then, but based on the description it sounds like this could be a smaller film and I’m all for that. Nice to see Jolie and Pitt using their star power to make something that otherwise would never get made at a studio.
