Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially closed a major chapter in their long-running legal battle. The update comes nearly two years after the former couple finalized their divorce.
Why Knox and Vivienne’s 18th birthday changes everything
Knox and Vivienne turning 18 officially ends Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s custody agreement. The twins are the youngest of the couple’s six children, after Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh. With all of their children now adults, Pitt and Jolie are no longer legally required to follow a custody agreement.
Jolie has spoken before about how the custody agreement affected her life. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said she stayed in Los Angeles because of the arrangement. Jolie said, “I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”
Jolie added, “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

Pitt’s relationship with his children has changed over the years. Five of their six children have publicly dropped or stopped using the Pitt surname. Shiloh changed her name after turning 18. Maddox, Zahara, Vivienne, and Knox have also publicly used the Jolie surname. However, Pax has not publicly been reported to have done so.
Even though the custody agreement has ended, Pitt and Jolie are still involved in a legal fight over Château Miraval, the French winery they bought together. That case is still ongoing, so the former couple remains connected through that dispute.
