The predictions are in and I’m a little surprised to see the consensus in thinking Neighbors will hold The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to only one weekend at the #1 spot. Is that because Neighbors has received so many great reviews and Spider-Man 2 seems to have largely flat-lined with audiences or what gives? The readers are a little more bullish on Spidey than Laremy, but a second place finish is still second place.
The reader average for Neighbors went $400,000 higher than Laremy, which means he’s likely to lose this race once again as I also expect the Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne and Zac Efron comedy to score big this weekend, most likely bigger than that.
The readers also see a little more second weekend potential in Spider-Man 2 than Laremy, predicting a $38.5 million sophomore session for the webslinger, just shy of $2 million more than Laremy’s prediction.
The two left field newcomers are Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return and Moms’ Night Out and the lack of personal awareness on these two make them tough picks and while tracking on Oz suggests a $9.2 million finish the readers are going well below at $6.6m. As for the moms, no love this Mother’s Day with the readers predicting a $4.6 million finish, $100,000 more than Laremy.
