Marvel: ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Announced, Concept Art and More

Marvel is holding its panel at Comic Con as I type and at the same time they have announced online several of their upcoming films including the long rumored Guardians of the Galaxy and the Edgar Wright-helmed Ant-Man. Of the two Guardians of the Galaxy is the only one with a release date, that being August 1, 2014 and just above you’re seeing the first piece of concept art for the film.

I know nothing of these Guardians, but apparently the team you see above includes characters named Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Racoon and Gamorra. The art was done by Charlie Wen. Give it a click for a larger look.

As of now details on what exactly will take place in Guardians of the Galaxy is unknown, but it will reportedly be set in the future and feature with the team fighting an evil race called the Badoom, and in the process they would supposedly travel back in time and cross paths with some of the Avengers team. Speculation says that Thanos, the character seen in the post-credits sequence following The Avengers would be in the film and Guardians of the Galaxy would serve as a precursor to The Avengers 2.

As for the Ant-Man feature, we talked about that back in early July when it was revealed Marvel contracted Wright to film a reel of footage that was used to test out the potential look and tone of his movie, as well as to decide how convincing Ant-Man’s powers look onscreen. Apparently the studio was convinced, the film, however, does not have a release date, only the logo you see to the right.

And finally, the titles for the Thor and Captain America sequels. Thor 2 will be officially titled Thor: The Dark World and will hit theaters on November 8, 2013 and Captain America 2 will go by Captain America: The Winter Soldier which will be released on April 4, 2014.

Title treatments for both films along with the treatments for Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man 3 were also released and I’ve included those directly below.
