I posted my review of The Dictator yesterday (read that here) and if anything the film’s takeover of the Carlton Hotel here in Cannes is a perfect example of what kind of comedy the film delivers, which is to say comedy not at all dependent of story.
The banners on the each side of the entrance, the drapery and the image at the center of it all, however, are not what make this piece of marketing so great. In fact, the best part can hardly be seen in the image above, which is why I direct your attention to the two small golden statues above the banners to the right and left. At first I didn’t even notice them, but upon closer inspection they too are part of the fun…
Sacha Baron Cohen made an appearance, in character, at the end of the beach earlier this morning. Unfortunately, I was in line for a movie and couldn’t make it.
Stay tuned for more images from around the Croisette and of course my first review of the fest, Wes Anderson‘s opening night feature Moonrise Kingdom, all coming very soon.
