2011’s Descent into Hell: ‘Rampart,’ ‘Shame’ and ‘We Need to Talk about Kevin’

I’ve been waiting for the Rampart forever, just so I could post this visual comparison for three films that might provoke suicide if someone were to actually watch all three back-to-back-to-back.

That said, Rampart, Shame and We Need to Talk about Kevin are three of the very best films as well as three of the most visually compelling films from 2011. And while I wouldn’t suggest catching them together as part of a triple-feature, I would definitely recommend you see all three independently if you can.

Directors Oren Moverman, Lynne Ramsay and Steve McQueen have delivered three of the most visually striking features of the year and it will be interesting to see how well the three films play in Oscar’s Best Cinematography category as Bobby Bukowski, Seamus McGarvey and Sean Bobbitt definitely deserve some attention.
