Matt Damon is currently emerging as Oscar Voters’ top pick for The Odyssey. Christopher Nolan‘s latest movie has already broken many records and is now in talks to win Oscars. Voters praise the all-star ensemble for their powerful, emotional performances in the epic action fantasy movie.

Screenings for The Odyssey were opened to Academy voters this week, and the results look positive. Matt Damon leads The Odyssey as Odysseus, and according to Variety, he is the “beneficiary of the biggest opening of his life.”
Damon has previously won an Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting and is also a two-time Academy nominee for acting in Invictus and The Martian. During one of the latest screenings, his craft was praised for its emotions and intimacy in scenes. An anonymous veteran artisan mentioned crying twice while watching him on screen.
The member says, “I became so emotional when he hears the Sirens, and when he pets his beautiful dog. I think Matt has to win the Oscar. He has to.”
However, previously, Tom Cruise fans were convinced that he would win the Oscar for his role as Digger Rockwell in his upcoming movie Digger. The satirical black comedy will be out on October 2, 2026, awaiting critics’ reviews. As of now, Damon stands as a pick for voters over Cruise.
Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey was released in theaters last weekend. The movie has earned $264 million worldwide in the opening weekend, breaking the record previously held by the director’s The Dark Knight.
One Academy member commented, “I didn’t think anything could top ‘Oppenheimer’ and Chris’ [Nolan] first film, Following. He is the definitive filmmaker of our time.”
That said, more movies are slated to release later this year, including Cruise’s Digger, which will release on October 2. Although The Odyssey and Damon are strong contenders, further releases could also influence voter decisions.
The Odyssey is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
