On the heels of my Deadline reports Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) will play the younger version of Olivia, the role played by Emma Thompson and head of the MiB agency. The story involves traveling back in time to 1969 at which time the Olivia character was hired as secretary for the Agency. The film is still on track for a May 25, 2012 release.
It appears Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve is now a question of who’s not in the film as opposed to who is in the film. Halle Berry after dropping out and being replaced by Katherine Heigl is back on board in a different role and Carla Gugino is also a part of the cast as a doctor, who will mainly play opposite Jessica Biel and Seth Meyers. The film follows a number of couples whose lives cross paths on New Year’s Eve and of those in the cast I have not mentioned here’s a list: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron, Abigail Breslin, Lea Michele, Sofia Vergara, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Jon Bon Jovi, Til Schweiger, Josh Duhamel and Alyssa Milano. I am sure I am missing some, but at this point I’m not sure it matters. Shooting is currently underway in New York for a December 9 release.
We finally have news on a new film for Donnie Darko helmer Richard Kelly as he will write and direct a film titled Corpus Christi. The Texas-set story concerns a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran named Paciencia “Patience” De La Rosa, who forges a strange friendship with his boss Ralph Salverson, the wealthy and politically ambitious owner of a supermarket chain. Eli Roth has come aboard as a producer along with Kelly and Sean McKittrick’s Darko Entertainment banner. Casting is currently under way, with an announcement expected before the end of March. The film will serve as Kelly’s follow-up to the 2009 box-office disappointment The Box.
Matthew Vaughn is currently editing X-Men: First Class, but he has told Deadline‘s Tim Adler about a terrible idea he has for a movie that may put the first nail in the superhero movie coffin. The idea is a film about a retirement home where superheroes end up based on a yet-to-be-published comic book written by Brit TV chat show host Jonathan Ross. No script is yet in place and Vaughn seems to be dreaming if he thinks his wishlist of names — Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty — are likely to sign on for the film in the first place, let alone before the script is written. I don’t know, if you ask me Vaughn has gone down a filmmaking track I never would have expected after Layer Cake. I haven’t hated his films, but this idea just sounds terrible to me.
Michael Bay is reportedly teaming with Twilight actor Taylor Lautner and last night a script was sent out for auction to all the major studios. There aren’t any details on the project so beyond that we’re simply left to speculate and wonder.
Finally, Ice Cube is negotiating to join Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in 21 Jump Street for Columbia Pictures. He will apparently be playing the role of the precinct captain, a role originated by Steven Williams in the TV series. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing with shooting expected to begin in late April for a March 16, 2012 release.
