‘Friday the 13th’ Reboot Gets Writers

I can only wonder if this Hollywood strick is a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand a lot of long gestating pictures may get underway, on the other hand they may be rushed and therefore end up being crap. One film I believe now looks like may fall into the rushed crap bin could end up being the Platinum Dunes produced Friday the 13th reboot, of which Shock Til You Drop has learned has finally brought on some writers.

Dunes producers have signed on Freddy vs. Jason scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift to draft a script. The film has been set up at New Line for some time with Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning helmer Jonathan Liebesman attached to direct.

Shock goes on to mention that while they don’t know if Liebesman is still attached to direct there is a plan to get the next Friday the 13th off the ground by early 2008. Early reports had it as a Jason Voorhees’ origin story, there are no details on whether or not that is still the case now that early drafts by Mark Wheaton have been scrapped.

It would be great to get a solid new franchise out of Jason, but I fear a rushed project would not be the best way to go about getting it off the ground.
