Jason Voorhees will return in more Friday the 13th movies expanding the franchise beyond its dozen films. The news comes ahead of Crystal Lake which is a prequel series focusing on the life of a young Voorhees.
What has been teased about the future of the Friday the 13th franchise?
In an interview with Variety, Horror Inc. executive vice president Robbie Barsamian gave an exciting update on the future of the franchise. When asked what’s coming next for Jason after the upcoming Crystal Lake, Barsamian said, “We’ve been busy behind the scenes laying the foundation that everyone is finally starting to see come to life, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. We have a thrilling lineup of new projects that we can’t wait to share more details on soon.”
Horror Inc. owns the rights to the Friday the 13th franchise. Following a long hiatus after the release of the titular 2009 film, the franchise is making a big comeback under the Jason Universe banner. That started with 2025’s Sweet Revenge, followed by a crossover with the video game Dead by Daylight, and will continue with Crystal Lake. The franchise recently celebrated its 46th anniversary.

Collectively, the franchise has grossed over $468 million at the global box office. Besides the films, the franchise also includes several comic books, novels, TV shows, video games, and more. Jason Voorhees has also crossed paths with Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street. The iconic killer will be played by Chucky star Callum Vinson in Crystal Lake, with Linda Cardellini playing his mother, Pamela Voorhees. The upcoming series has been teased to include some “ingenious kill sequences”, keeping the franchise’s tradition alive.
Fans can catch 1986’s Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives in theaters later this year. Crystal Lake will premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026.
